Artist of the Day! Adinah - Singer/Songwriter

I didn't just stumble across this girl's youtube video haphazardly while surfing for viral auto-tune the news videos (which i'll post later for those who missed out on the fun). She's a dear friend of mine. I actually had the privilege of knowing her since my middle school days. Anyways, I want you to listen close. These are original lyrics and her voice, well, it speaks for itself. She's one gifted woman. Enjoy!

If you like what you hear (which I'm sure you will unless your ears need to be cleaned), don't be a stranger. Visit Adinah's youtube channel (adinajlag) so you can hear more of her original songs as well as her cover songs. comment, rate, favorite, subscribe etc etc.

Adinah keep blessing us with your amazing sound!

NY Debates Islamic Center Near World Trade Center Site

Hey friends!

It's been a while since i've posted but i stumbled across this news article. please read it and tell me how YOU feel.

http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20100810/US.Ground.Zero.Mosque.Paterson/

If you don't have time to read this entire article let me just highlight a few things:

"ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Gov. David Paterson offered state help Tuesday if the developers of a mosque near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks agree to move the project farther from the site.

Paterson, a Democrat, said that he doesn't oppose the project as planned but indicated that he understands where opponents are coming from. He said he was willing to intervene to seek other suitable state property if the developers agreed."

Argument
"...the religion that fueled the hatred in the terrorists shouldn't be displayed so near to the site and in a place New Yorkers will have to pass daily..."

Counter-argument:
"...Muslims died in the Sept. 11 attacks, too, and that "we have to remember that sometimes it's the fanaticism of religion that have driven people to do what they do, not the worship of the religion itself."..."

and here's a video with New York Rep. (on the Homeland Security Committee) Peter King offering his opinion in regards to radical Islam

Erykah Badu

I've been slackin' on the blog post lately...life is a beautiful mess right now.
I'm working on a ton of new projects that I'm really excited about.
I promise you some poems soon!
but in the mean time, i've been listening in on Queen Badu's latest Album and I must say this particular track stuck with me. She kept it simple on this album but the lyrics still resonate with me. What do you think?

I'm a few decades late in the Ruth Brown fan club but now I'm a believer.

I am in awe of her intensity.

Bocca Chiusa

I’ve been meaning to tell you
That some part of me wants
to unzip the metaphors from the warmth
of your jacket. Some small part of me
wants to delete the last line of a poem
and unkiss you. Some part of me wants
to pull the words out of their sleeves
with my bare cold hands, Squeeze tight
and watch the verb shiver until it
convulses and writhes helplessly into a participle,

I’m looking at an old photograph
Fabricating a thousand new memories
Some part of me needs to tell you this
Without the assistance of publication
And copyright, The human condition
Is too cliché for you to appreciate some
part of me needs to let go of the stanza I
borrowed from you. The warm one with
the hole in it doesn’t smell like you anymore,

Some wise part of me knows better than to
Use Shakespearian vernacular, caviar words
And SAT linguistics to diagram our history.
Some part of me knows you’ll never understand
and it may be my fault
For not sharing.
